Highlights:
- Traveling fit means you will be ready to seize opportunities when they come.
- Have a “fitness with a deadline” philosophy.
- Small goals are easier to reach.
Traveling fit enables you to take adventure vacations, like hiking, biking or climbing tours, knowing that you can keep up.
An upcoming event or once-in-a- lifetime experience can provide instant motivation to work toward all of your health and fitness goals. In fact, it’s one of the most successful ways to help you get and stay, motivated. Just ask any bride, Olympic athlete, someone going to a 20-year high school reunion or climber who is planning on climbing Everest.
It shouldn’t take a lifetime event to get you fit and healthy, but sometimes “life” just gets in the way. We get busy taking care of everyone else’s needs first, and sometimes we just flat out don’t really feel like exercising.
It doesn’t have to be that way, though.
Getting up a little earlier to exercise, skipping the fast food and paying attention to your health can be as rewarding as planning your next adventure. After you have done this for a while, you will know that this is true. It will be part of your healthy lifestyle.
You don’t even need to be planning the trip or event of a lifetime. Planning a family event, such as hiking, rafting or ice skating, is a great start.
Learning a new sport is also excellent motivation to get fit. Think about how amazing it will be to wakeboard, surf or kayak on your next trip to Florida.
Start with a small goal. Small goals are easier to reach and help propel you onto bigger goals.
If small isn’t your style, plan big. Choose something that requires extra fitness, like climbing a mountain or taking a cycling tour of Italy.
