This chapter is a free excerpt from The Best Book on Getting Consulting Jobs In India.

It's also very important to make a list of all the possible questions you can be asked in a fit interview so you can be prepared to go through those scenarios.

Fit interview questions can be all over the map, categorizing major themes will be a big help:
  • What are my strengths and weaknesses?
  • Why do I want to do consulting?
  • How do my prior experiences make me a strong candidate for the job?
They all seem easy enough, but when you're asked these questions in a real interview, you'll find them quite challenging if you haven't practiced.

They all seem easy enough, but when you're asked these questions in a real interview, you'll find them quite challenging if you haven't practiced.

It's important to think through the questions deeply by being both honest and modest when answering. It's not as straightforward as it seems when you read about it in consulting prep books.

Have your own questions ready, and try to answer them on your own. If a common question is "what are your 3 strengths?," then have some prepared talking points!

My benchmark of a person who is well prepared is a person who goes into a fit interview without making up an answer at that point, someone who's already thought through enough scenarios and eventualities that they can mix and match answers as appropriate.

So make a list of questions. Write down your answers. Review them daily.

Career counselors can help. Friends can help. Do mock interviews if you get the chance - that's important so you can get the "real feel" of what it's like to be interviewed - especially if you have little to no job hunting experience.

Opportunities to interview with management consulting firms are extremely rare, so you need to give your best shot. Any amount of diligence shown before the interview will ALWAYS bear fruit.
