It’s Time To Look Out For Your Own Best Interests

by Richard Nikoley

This chapter is a free excerpt from Beyond The Blog: Free the Animal.

Grains are junk and garbage that barely pass for "food." Yet this is what the authorities advise that you eat as your primary source of "nutrition." Why?

One reason is that animal products have that “dreaded” fat in them. You’ve already seen that there’s simply no valid comparison in terms of overall micronutrient nutrition, so even if—if—there were valid reasons to avoid the devil of saturated fat, one must honesty wonder: but at what cost? It doesn’t make sense.

Another reason grain is said to be healthier than animal fat—the real reason, in my opinion—is that if you do a little research, you’ll find that the ADA is in the pay of the world's leading companies promoting and profiting from obesity and ill-health by producing cheap, highly-processed "food."

You have to dig deep, but if you look at the fine print of any alphabet soup “health” institution website, you can usually find who’s paying them to admonish you with unhealthful advice.

  • The American Dietetic Association is sponsored by Aramark, Coca-Cola, Hershey, National Dairy Council, Abbott, CoroWise, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Mars, Pepsico, Unilever, Soyjoy . . . you get the idea.
  • The American Diabetes Association’s list of sponsors is essentially the same, with the big drug companies thrown in.

Do you think these companies are paying the ADAs to diss sugar-water drinks, processed foods and other sources of carbohydrate overload? And if not, how kindly are the ADAs going to take to having its affiliated dietitians and nutritionists contradicting ADA guidelines and policy? How could ADA guidelines and policy possibly be contradictory to the interests of the ones paying the bills?

The ADAs say low fat is good? Then food manufacturers deliver. They line the shelves with products that are low in fat, but high in sugar. The ADAs say whole grains are healthy? Then food manufacturers line the shelves with appealing—to many—products based on grains, and—bonus!—low in fat!

The ADAs say butter is bad? Then food manufacturers give you margarine for decades. But then . . . oops! Margarine contains trans fats, which are now universally recognized as poison. Alright, so they created a whole new line of synthetic "spreads" based on vegetable oils—formerly used as industrial machinery lubricants—extracted by heat and petroleum solvents that have to be deodorized to eat (mouth watering, isn’t it?). Hopefully it won't take another four decades to determine that the spreads are as bad, or worse, than the margarine they replaced. And what will they think of next?

In light of this, does it not follow that if those same food companies paying the bills have interests that are in conflict with your interest in lean, attractive health, that there’s actually an antagonism between you and the ADA and their dietitians? Who do you think is going to win out on that one? The whole world of conventional "wisdom" nutrition and dietetics is like the McDonald's chain, because the advice is exactly the same worldwide and for all.

Got that? Does this begin to give you a clue that "experts" and "authorities" might—just maybe—not have your personal best interests at heart as much as their own interests?
