Frequent “Target-Rich" Environments & Date More After 40!

by Jerusha Stewart

This chapter is a free excerpt from The Best Book on Dating More After 40.

“I feel a lot healthier when I’m having sex. Physically, I feel all these jitters when I wake up in the morning. Just energy jitters. I take vitamins. I work out every day. When I’m having sex, I don’t have that.” -Alyssa Milano

Single women over 40 who want to meet more single men over 40, must frequent “target-rich environments.” Target-rich environments are places where single men over 40 naturally gather in large numbers. A good example is sporting events and this includes non-sporting events with a competitive component like upscale school fundraisers, flea markets, and auctions. Make sure to sign up for singles theme nights at your favorite ballpark, too. There will be many men there to choose from and your curves will stand out in their crowd.

Maximize men’s night out whenever you can by remembering that . . .

Men like to hunt on familiar ground.

They will be feeling more comfortable because they are in their natural environment. Most importantly, sporting events create natural conversation starters for them. So, for example, if it’s a big game at your local sports bar, you can easily walk up to a man you don’t know and ask him, “Hey, you’re wearing my favorite colors. Who’s your favorite team?”

The playing field has expanded to include singles nights.

Many sports franchises are now realizing that many of their fans are single and are organizing popular singles nights. Typically, they host the event in a private section of the stadium while the game is going on. And the location offers a great opening line. “Come here often? By the way, my name is______.” Kick off the dating game with a winning introduction.

No one likes to watch a game on an empty stomach.

Not a sports fan, be a game time MVP and bring your best BBQ wings with chipotle blue cheese dressing sauce to the football feast. No worries; food is your ticket to the relaxed, fun-loving house parties for annual college ball rivalries.

You should do your home team homework.

When the Super Bowl is coming up, spend a little time researching where the best Super Bowl parties are going to be, the team colors and the big budget commercials to watch out for at half-time. Wear clothing that suggests an active lifestyle and that you can move in. You will want to feel cute from all angles: sitting on the bar stool, climbing over someone in the stands or a restaurant booth, stretched out on the floor, or catching a fly ball. Best bet: a flattering top and the best jeans you have got. Ditto in spades for the World Cup.

You can toss the sports trivia book away.

Having limited knowledge about the game and the players can be an asset. This is a great way to start a conversation – ask him to explain the game to you! If he likes talking to you, the conversation will naturally move onto other topics. It is also a nice opportunity for him to show you how smart he is!

Target the best sports bar in your neighborhood for your own girls’ night out.

Grab a beer after work with your other over 40 single gal pals, if you want the comfort of camaraderie. The single men over 40 you meet at the local sports bar are definitely going to be geographically desirable. Do try going it alone, too. Hang out at your local sports bar one night a week for dinner and do crossword puzzles. The guys nearby will volunteer answers in the relaxed setting. And the one-on-one set-up makes it easier for men to approach you. Soon you will be a regular with a lot potential of dates.

DATE MORE CHALLENGE: What would happen if you did develop an interest in sports? Just for fun, go to the mall and shop for flat screen TV’s during the season. Chat up any attractive single fans as you wander down the aisles.
