Business School Application Rounds Explained

This chapter is a free excerpt from The Best Book on Top Ten MBA Admissions.

For most schools, there’s a total of 3 application rounds.

Each application round is its own application season. So all of the applications for round one are compared to each other, and so are all of the round 2 applications.

The first round of applications tends to begin in October and end in September. Round 2 applications are due at the beginning of January, and round 3 applications are due in March.

However, I would advise you to avoid round 3 unless you have a very good reason to apply then. If you’re in the army, and that somehow affects your ability to apply during the first two rounds, then applying to round three is perfectly fine.

But for most people, if they want their best chances of getting in, the first two rounds are always the best.

In general, the earlier you apply, the better. If you can, you should apply to round one. Doing so really makes your life a whole lot easier.
